Update from The Community Council

Posted by:

We want to take a few moments to update you on The Community Council and our plans regarding the “proposed” event center by the Rocky Mount City Council.

We now have signs stating our opposition to the proposed event center due to people having no vote and further financial drain on our fragile economy.  Signs will be available if you would like to have one.  Secondly, we have hired a firm to assist us with our efforts to better inform the public on why this project is such a bad idea for the taxpayers.  We have hired the Raleigh firm, Strategic Partners Solutions.  SPS is headed by two of the top NC issue management professionals in the state.  Paul Shumaker and Dee Stewart are well-known for managing successful political campaigns and shaping public awareness on key issues impacting communities.

Our board is very excited that we were able to secure their assistance and rest assured you will be hearing a lot more from our organization in the near future as we move to better educate the public on why we believe the events center is not in the best interest of our community.

Feel free to contact us via email at info@TheCommunityCouncil.org or by filling out the form on our website.

Thank you for taking a stand AGAINST the event center, I think that it is one of the worst ideas that the city council has come up with, We need to take the money that will be spent on that to improve our schools, streets, neighborhoods, and the crime that infects our city. I have been a life long resident here and the changes that have taken place since I was growing up have been terrible. I’m not saying that everything has been bad but recently the city council has not done anything to help the citizens of Rocky Mount. We have the Gateway Center and the Dunn Center that can support any function that we need in RM. I don’t think a new center will bring anymore meetings to our area especially with the crime as bad as it is. Please post the time of the meeting on the Feb 23 so that I can mark my calendar. Thanks for listening.

There is a mass exodus of people leaving RMt. It is NOT a city on the rise. Gangs, drugs and overall high crime rate are the reason. I strongly oppose the building of this center. I live outside of RMt but sympathize with the current residents who can barely afford to pay their utility bills. Why don’t you fix that first?
