You have an opportunity to let your Rocky Mount City Council representative know you care about the proposed construction of an Event Center.

According to an article in The Rocky Mount Telegram by Brie Handgraaf the City Council will be presented results of a study recommending the construction of an Event Center.  According to this article the Event Center construction cost will be $37.2 million and will cost taxpayers up to $640,000 yearly to operate.

Estimates are often optimistic; the best case scenario is that the City of Rocky Mount over 10 years will lose $43.6 million.  It is likely the City of Rocky Mount and the taxpayers will owe much more. Can our city survive such an expense if things do not go as planned?  This is on top of the money we are already losing in other areas.  One fear is this turns out like the Roanoke Rapids Randy Parton Theatre.

Please articulate your thoughts, regardless of the position you take, because this is important to our community.  You can start by attending the Committee of the Whole meeting Monday at 4:00PM.  Tell a friend – bring a friend!
